Salama Medical Agency (SAMA) is a local, non-profit, non-governmental, humanitarian aid organization which works in response to emergency humanitarian situations and in provision of health care, nutrition, WASH and education services to the needy and vulnerable populations in south central zone of Somalia. SAMA is an active partner with UN agencies, international and national organizations, advocates and participates in other welfare activities in collaboration with civil society organizations, community based organizations and etc.

Over the last years since 2008, SAMA with its tireless efforts to alleviate the suffering, it has made a recognized name through its humanitarian interventions focusing on health, nutrition, WASH, education and protection and It has been realized as a core agency providing evidence based humanitarian interventions in Bay and Bakool regions through its collaborative partnership with local and international humanitarian aid organizations and individuals to assist the most vulnerable population groupssuch as women, children and elderly as well as other poor and weak community members.

During the past, SAMA had played a significant role in response to the emergency and crisis situations such as outbreak of diseases and droughts which worst affected the vulnerable populations in Bay and Bakool regions. SAMA managed to establish and has been supporting numerous health facilities in several locationsin the two regions of Bay and Bakool during theemergency crisis and because of SAMA humanitarian services, the lives of many poor and vulnerable communities were either saved or positivelychanged.

The programs of SAMA are relief of suffering and humanitarian aid approaches mainly focusing on prevention, early detection, response and management as well as humanitarian assistance services all of which are needsbased interventions of health, nutrition, WASH, education and protection services by promoting involvement of the community in provision of the social services and effective collaboration and coordination of programs and information sharing.

Given to the fact that the emergency situations are widely different from country to country, SAMA always develops its strategies and plans guidedby its policies and relevant to national and local context. Its emergency programs are primarily intended as a measured response to bring quick relieffor the suffering.

Foundation
SAMA wasfounded on 17 July 08, by a group of Somali community memberswith diverse professional backgroundsincluding civilsociety activists,schoolteachers, business and intellectuals who believed that the establishment of such LNGO with access to the various locations in south central zone of Somalia, contributes to ensure the most in need people such as the rural populations and nomads are reached with the necessary lifesaving services and their unmet needsis addressed as well as set up and organize developmentprograms which are equally accessible by all people both from urban and ruralcommunities.
